Parisians of various social classes relaxing on a sunlit island in the Seine, composed entirely of tiny dots of pure color applied according to optical theory.

Significance

The masterpiece of Pointillism, Seurat spent two years applying millions of dots. Stephen Sondheim's musical Sunday in the Park with George brought it to new audiences.
